Muc-Off Fresh Foam
A helmet protects you from impacts of branches, flying stones and sticks, and when you land on the ground, so you should also take good care of your helmet's longevity. Cleaning a motocross or mountain bike helmet is simple. You just need some time and the right tools.
What you need:
- Pure microfiber cloth
- Blag detergent - We recommend Muc-Off Fresh Foam equipment cleaner
- Hot water
Step 1: Remove Internal and External Attachments
Remove all external helmet accessories such as visors, GoPro cameras, lights, and mounts. Remove the interior padding and clean it separately. If the padding looks quite worn, it makes sense to consider replacing it.
QUICK TIPAvoid the heat
Heat can damage the foam padding or shell of your helmet. We recommend storing your helmet in a cool and dry place, away from sunlight. If possible, do not leave your helmet in a hot car.

Step 2: Interior Cleaning
Hand wash (Recommended)
Gently wash the pads in a cleaning solution and gently massage them in the solution to remove sweat and odor. Then gently rinse each item under running water to remove the cleaning solution. Squeeze the pads to remove excess water and let them air dry away from direct sunlight.
Washing in the Washing Machine
Place the insoles in a washing bag. Wash using the "gentle" or "hand wash" program. DO NOT tumble dry. Air dry the insoles away from direct sunlight.

QUICK TIP: Gloves go on hands, not in the helmet
Care for a helmet begins with preventive measures. Gloves go on your hands and not in your helmet, as you touch many unpleasant things with gloves - therefore do not store them in your helmet.
Step 3: Cleaning the Exterior
Soak a pure microfiber cloth in cleaning solution and gently squeeze it out. For further cleaning, the cloth should be damp, but should not drip.
Gently wipe the outer shell of the helmet to remove dirt.
Wash light-colored helmets with water and soap. You may need to scrub lightly on light straps to remove dirt and sweat stains.
QUICK TIP: Your bike is not a coat hanger
Helmets for mountain biking and motocross are designed to compress upon impact to absorb energy from a fall. Therefore, do not hang your helmet on the handlebars or seat post, where there is a high risk of dropping it.

Step 4: Assembling the Helmet
If the helmet is dry on the inside, reassemble it. How easy was that? If the helmet has an adjustable visor, adjust it back to the desired position.
That's it - you're ready for action!
Get dressed, put on a clean helmet right now and head out to those wonderful tracks. Don't forget: regular helmet cleaning will ensure you always look, feel and smell like your best racing days.
QUICK TIP:
Insect repellents and some sunscreens can cause peeling of your helmet's surface. Apply them before putting on your helmet and heading out into the field.
